Define a custom field once, choosing the object it applies to (contact, transaction, or task) and its type. It then appears on that object’s detail page for everyone to fill in.
Who can do this
- Owners and Admins — can do this for any record or setting in the account.
- Agents and Assistants — cannot do this.
Roles are predefined by NextAccord. See all roles & permissions
Steps
- Step 1: Open Settings → Custom Fields.
- Step 2: Add a field: name it, pick the object type it belongs to, and choose its data type. Mark it required only if every record should have a value.
- Step 3: Save. The field now shows in the Custom Fields section of that object’s detail page.
- Step 4: When a field is no longer useful, disable it. It stops appearing on new work but its recorded values are kept.
Tip: Keep field names short and specific so they read well on a crowded detail page.
Common problems
- Only owners and admins can manage custom fields — I do not see the controls.
- That is expected. Ask an owner or admin to add the field; everyone can then fill it in.
